Authenticity means being true to oneself. Most leaders prefer being who their job description requires them to be, or being whom their followers expect them to be. An authentic leader is different, and being himself and true to himself is what makes him different. A leader should not only strive to be whom he is required to be as a leader but should be a leader who knows himself. When a leader takes up a role in leading others, he should ask himself what this role is doing to him. Is it developing and growing his character too, or is it a role that is degrading him? This is the main reason I am studying this course; to be a leader who is true to himself.
