During the 16th and 17th centuries, the scientific revolution has boomed in which various discoveries and explorations have emerged. Mathematicians and astronomers studied the elements found in outer space. These elements’ motions, such as the sun, moon, and planets, were heavily studied that took years for observation.
Renaissance astronomers include Aristotle, Eudoxus, and Callippus. They proposed the earth being in the center while the sun, moon, and other planets revolved around it within a fixed distance. Four spheres were assigned to each world. However, it was noted that there’s a discrepancy in these assumptions due to the variations of their brightness or apparent size periodically. The data was used in a new system by the Alexandrian astronomers to eliminate such inaccuracies. This was then revised by Claudius Ptolemy and expanded into a new system that became the basic foundation of other astronomers until the seventeenth century.
