Pros, Cons, and Opportunities for Improvement
It is a common notion amongst people (at least in the U.S.) that the United States has the best health-care in the world. With 17% of its total GDP being spent on healthcare alone, and a number of medical programs designed to help each and every sector of the country (e.g. Medicare, Medicaid, and Chip) U.S. is not surprisingly, one of the countries with the best healthcare in the world (The Guardian). However, despite this immense amount of budget being allocated to healthcare, what is surprising is the fact that the country has only taken the 11th place in terms of the country that offers the best medical attention in the world. Now, this begs the question, why so?
According to The Guardian, one of the reasons why other countries are better than the US, despite the huge allocation towards it is the ‘actual process’ to get these benefits. One good example of this is the country’s insurance policy. While it is a fact that after that implementation of Obamacare only 10% of the population is not covered, it is also a fact that all of this 90 % of the citizens are buried under “the crushing weight of payments bureaucracy, or the risk-averse medical practices that flow from a fear of lawsuits” (The Guardian). Another disadvantage of our country’s healthcare is its orientation towards sickness and disease.
