In Time of Walking, John Dixon Hunt talks about two important concepts of art that were introduced to the world in the 18th century: the development of picturesque and the art of walking. He is of the view that “walking was at the heart of Serra’s sculptures” (Hunt 297). For two to three centuries, artists and other creative-minded people have been calling walking an art, and this has been depicted in various artworks, paintings, drawings or other similar things. I have personally observed that an artist, who creates artworks based on human bodies, tries to show varying reactions, expressions and body movements through his works. For instance, if a girl has to be shown in a painting or another artwork, then the artist will try to show some of her facial expressions and body movements irrespective of the message conveyed through the work.
John Dixon Hunt also says that this concepts work like Aristotle’s ideas, claiming that “just as Aristotle in his Physics said that movement and time define each other, so do our movements” (Hunt 298). This indicates that the body movements of an individual are enough to express his feelings. For instance, if he is sad, he may walk slowly or may show some other reactions that will prove that the person is having bad time.
