Topic: Workers compensation
Workers’ compensation is a very important employee benefits package. Workers’ compensation ensures that workers have received medical care in case they have injuries. Workers’ compensation is a type of insurance that provides wage replacement and medical benefits to the employees. It also provides disability payments in case an individual is not able to work. Companies also pay workers’ compensation just like any other type of insurance. The benefits are paid to workers who become sick or get injured while they are at work. Additionally, payment for negligence claims is not included in the workers' compensation.
Workers' compensation is a requirement of every employee in every organization today. Workers can also decide to self-insure for the workers' compensation but the policy should meet all the regulations of the state. This is because the majority of the companies belong to the state programs. It also covers long term illnesses. Workers' compensation also provides vocational rehabilitation programs. Additionally, death benefits can also be paid (Levy, & Inter-American Development Bank, 2018). Employees can also sue employers in case the injuries were obtained under the following circumstances: if the injury was intentional and if the injury was outside the scope of the worker's task. The law also warns employers against discriminating employees who have filed workers compensation claims. Fraud can result in high penalties and fines. Employees are also not expected to lie they have acquired an injury because this is considered as fraud.
