Explain what it means to say Criminology is an interdisciplinary science
Criminology is an interdisciplinary science because it involves many science disciplines such natural science, social science and human science in its core objective of understanding crime and criminal behavior. The main subjects studied under criminology include; criminal biology, criminal sociology, criminal policy, penology, victimology, criminal phenomenology, criminal etiology, criminal psychopathology and criminal psychology (Cooper, Walsh & Ellis, 336). The concern of criminology is not primarily criminal justice system, but instead it focuses on studying and researching on how to understand the causes of crime.
Understanding and addressing illegal activities within the general public requires the development of a mental picture on the reasons behind the occurrence of a crime under many circumstances. Sociology as a science may help to understand the social element of an individual involved in the background of a person and hence assist in providing thoughtful insight into why an individual decided to act against the law (Cooper, Walsh & ...
