Zacharias Kunuk's Film Atanarjuat
Even though I watched many films produced in the early 2000s, Atanarjuat's film Zacharias Kunuk stood out. This film had outstanding features, which made it win various awards. Even though many individuals have acknowledged this was an outstanding film, others still question it. It is therefore important to check what makes the film continue receiving massive support despite being produced more than two decades ago. The Atanarjuat film is outstanding since it shows how supernatural powers can cause jealousy and betrayal and the process of overcoming it to attain forgiveness and a united community.
The film shows how a strange Shahman, Tungajuaq engages in a spiritual duel with Kumaglak, a camp leader, causing his death. This visitor took Kumaglak's necklace and put it on his son Sauri making him the new camp leader. However, the stranger’s magic is later influencing the community with hatred. On the other hand, even though Tulimaq was having a bad lack in hunting, his sons, Atanarjuat and Amaqjuaq, were taken care of by Panikpak, where Atanarjuat became a fast runner, and Amaqjuaq became strong.
However, rather than collaborating with the community, they became rivals with Sauri and his son Oki. For example, Atanarjuat pursued beautiful Atuat during a 'wolf tag' game, causing jealousy in Oki. This causes Oki and Atanarjuat to punch in a duel, and Atana...
