In today's rapidly evolving media environment , where you get your news can greatly influence your views on politics. Throughout the 20th century the vast majority of voters received their news from their local news paper and local affiliates of one of the 3 major television networks. In the 21st century the internet has completely upended how and where Americans receive information about the world, their government and politics.
1) Do you consume any traditional news media (newspapers, radio, online news sources, network news or cable news)? If so, what are your go to sources for news of the day?
2) Do you receive some or a majority of your news through social media, even if some of those sources are traditional news sources?
3) Do you think the government has a role in deciding what is and is not a credible news source?
4) Do you think social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and tech companies (Google, Apple etc.) have a responsibility to identify and limit, or block, misinformation on their platforms?
Liberties
Where is the line between civil liberties and privacy and personal choice? For example, do we have the personal choice to wear a mask, or not? Is that a constitutional arguement? Does the government have the power and/or responsibility to enforce safety measures that will be the most effective response to emergencies? Name another example where there is conrtoversy between the government wanting to protect people and the public not wanting to be protected? (Ex. Car seatbelts, Motorcycle helmets) Do you land on the same side of the arument in both the mask and your given example?

The media environment, politics and liberties are closely interconnected. The primary consideration in assessing the media environment is the credibility of the media source. I primarily consume traditional media sources, especially newspapers, radio and television content. Technology has made these traditional media forms available over the internet. I like to check news from global media firms like BBC television and radio, Aljazeera, CNN and FOX news. I seldom access information from other regional traditional media. The emergence of social media shifted my attention to my news sources. Almost all media firms are available through the internet, and I find a short to accessing other news from various media firms under one platform. For instance, the BBC shares their top news on their Facebook and twitter accounts, making it easy to access daily news. The challenge is that social media information is not censored and always involve fake news, which can be misleading.
