The address begins by addressing the issue of slavery by indicating that the United States was a “new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” To achieve liberty for all, Lincoln argues all Americans to assist in the “great task” of reunifying a war-torn nation in honor of the soldiers who died.
