According to Justice Kennedy, we should view freedom as an evolving entity whose different dimensions become a reality with each generation. He observes that the constitution is a law that seeks to protect and guide the rule of law of a country. However, not everything is explicitly defined, so, in most cases, it tends to preserve the rights of the people of that century. The constitution provides for equal enjoyment of the Bill of Rights and the 14thAmendment by all citizens. Since new aspects of freedom come up with new generations, there is a need to look at all scopes of the bill of rights again in conjunction with the evolving society and generational needs. While acknowledging new perspectives often begins with protests, the understanding that each generation introduces a new perspective should make evolving of freedom a common phenomenon. Thus, while some rights issues such as gay marriage are not explicitly outlined in the constitution, the constitution’s continued interpretation is the only way to guarantee everyone equal rights.
