Evolution vs. Creation
The film ‘Evolution vs. creation: the never ending battle’ contains mind-opening views from different scholars on the complementary and opposing aspects of both the creation and evolution theories. The ideas expressed on the film present students with validations of adopting either or both perspectives as the guiding principle on the origin of creation. The most novel view presented in the film is the idea that both evolution and creation narratives can work alongside each other without necessarily subjected one opposing the other. The level of conflicting ideas, not only from the students but also from the professors and the administration, showed that no theory had adequate evidence and self-sufficiency to solely explain the theory of creation.
Keith Miller, an evangelical Christian and geologist, argued that the presence of transitional forms of life in fossil records shows that both theories do not conflict. I struggled with the idea that all the fossils were from the Biblical flood due to the carbon dating indicating millions of years since the origin of life. The notion that both could be true and complementary of each other opened my mind that we do not yet have enough to decide which is right and which is wrong. This perspective was cleared by one of the student’s declaration that the decision to support a theory is often pushed by personal conviction and not just from the presented facts and views.
