As from the 16th century until 20th century, different powers enjoyed partial or full control over other countries and exploited them economically. Though colonialism largely fell in the last century, it continues on in silent tones in the post-colonial era for example through policies with roots in the colonial period. For a long time, different scholars have had different opinions on whether colonialism was right or wrong. This paper will explore the positions taken by four authors on colonialism and the reasons that they give for taking their side.
In a 1899 poem called The White Man’s Burden, Rudyard Kipling seems to justify imperialism as a way of spreading civilization.
