2 Compromises
It is a discussion of 2 compromises and the arguing parties that took part in the debates. In addition, the result of the compromise and what was achieved are also talked about here because of its significance in the history of the US government. These compromises helped in shaping the constitution and end slavery for good.
The 1st one is the Great Compromise and during this time there were 2 plans that were presented in the event of the Constitutional Convention to add 2 new government branches. The 2 parties that participated in the debate were the Virginia Plan and the other legislature. The Virginia Plan was aiming for a firm national government that will comprise of 2 branches while the legislature will be made of 2 houses. One of them would be chosen by people through election and another one will be picked by the participants of the 1st house that are suggested by the state legislatures. In addition, the national judiciary and the president will be appointed by those who are in the national legislature. William Patterson created the New Jersey Plan that was only supporting 1 legislative house that would give equality to all states; and the Virginia Plan was an advocate of 2 houses that based its membership on population.
These 2 sides did not accept each other’s plans that called for a reflection on how the future of the US government will be determined.
