The Emancipation Proclamation changed the course of the civil war, since it shifted the balance in favor of the Union. Lincoln had articulated and made the calculated move of signing it, after he had ensured that the support from the public was with him and his forces. The proclamation therefore acted to destabilize the Confederate forces, hence giving the Union an upper hand and therefore the chance to win and bring the civil war to an end (YouTube.).This was particularly the case, since much of the States affected by the Proclamation were those in the Confederacy.
