Imagine if one of the villains or other wicked characters from this week's readings were suddenly transported to our world and had to face life in contemporary society.


 


You can choose one of the villains from either of the following stories for this assignment:



  • Ch. 3 - "Hansel and Gretel" (pp. 44-57)

  • Ch. 9 - "Rumpelstiltskin" (pp. 123-130)

A Wicked Stepmother
People learn a lot from their mothers, and grow up in love with their mothers. One of the best quotes often seen during mother’s day reads “If I know what love is, it’s because of you.” This is a beautiful quote that shows how children come to love their mothers. However, for Grace, such a quote brought tears to her eyes because her experiences with her stepmother were anything but lovely. Grace was the loneliest of the children in her neighborhood because her stepmother made sure she could not have friends or even be around children her age. Grace’s nights were made of tears and wishes because she used to cry and ask the heavens why her real mother was taken away from her so soon. She never felt the love mothers show their children. Every time children in her school would talk about moments they spent with their mothers, she would excuse herself and go cry in the cloak rooms. It never made sense to her that she could not find a mother’s love which she yearned and cried for every day.
Whenever she got home from school, she was expected to do all the house chores. Her mother often told her that her homework could wait and it did on so many occasions. Grace was a beautiful girl but she never smiled because she never had anything to smile about. Her father, was the complete opposite of her stepmother.
