Pop Music Album Review: Understanding the Music We Listen To

Essay Instructions:

Part of the goal of this class is to help us understand why we care about the music we listen to, and to understand the process by which popular music is both affected by, and in turn impacts upon, the culture it emerges from and ultimately becomes a part of.
For this paper, choose THREE full-length albums that have made a difference in your life, with the following requirements:
1. At least one of the collections must contain music more than ten years old (recorded and released no later than 2012), and at least one of the collections must contain music less than five years old (recorded and released no earlier than 2017).
2. All three should fall within the parameters of pop music (NO classical or jazz albums, please), and all three must be distinct from each other in terms of general style (in other words, do NOT pick three metal albums or three hip-hop albums, etc.)
3. While you may pick any combination of individual performers or groups, the collections should NOT be related to each other in terms of the artists involved (No more than one album per single performer or group)
For each album, discuss the following:
1. What were the roots and origins of the music--what tradition or movement did the artist(s) emerge from, and how did they reflect, extend, or alter that tradition or movement, either musically or culturally – or both?
2. What does each work say to you, specifically, that has caused it to stand out in your life?

Pop Music Album Review
There are a variety of distinct writing genres in which a writer is expected to write in a given style and provide information for a specified purpose. The writer is tasked with giving their viewpoints in the review genre. This enables for a more authentic, honest, and relatable piece. With a few exceptions, the piece caters to two distinct audiences. One audience is a fan of what the writer is evaluating, while the other is a critic of the subject who is reading in the hopes that the author will despise the subject and derail the essay. Other times, one will seek a music review to learn about the music's place in pop culture and why it is popular. Music reviews appeal to a wider readership than other sorts of reviews for various reasons.

"That's Not Me" and the classic "Wouldn't It Be Nice" are among the tracks included on this Beach Boys album. This CD belongs to the pop and jazz genres. The Beach Boys' eleventh studio album was released on Capitol Records on May 16, 1966, and is their eleventh studio album overall. This album was created to transport you back to your youth at any time. These arrangements brought a complex sound of rock music that has been made or heard. This album was to all the people during this time that helped shape America after WWII (Loydell p 52). The songs released in this album bring back a nostalgic feeling inside. At the same time, they listen to all the songs from a different point of view and more in-depth; it’s easy to feel what the songs are trying to convey. In “You Still, Believe Me,” you can understand the sounds’ formats and counts. The slow tempo of the instruments and the vocals are soft and harmonized. It all goes together, and that’s just one example in this album. I overall enjoyed this album just because of how different in style it is to their earlier styles. It was a change in times, and I enjoyed the album. Having a different musical technique and hearing all the different tempos showed the change and trust they had in their sound.
