Case Synopsis
Elasto Therm:
Nate and Julia Burstein wanted to run their own business. Then years after they bought it they were proud of their accomplishments in developing a profitable, recession resistant business producing custom flexible rubber and urethane components for a variety of niche markets.
As they contemplate prospects for the future, they are wrestling with the desire to expand the business, but not just for the sake of revenue/volume, but at the same or improved level of profitability that they have accomplished in the past and as an opportunity to provide challenges to their staff.
They are faced with a number of challenges. How fast should they grow? Do they have the right “go to market” strategy by relying solely on manufacturers' representatives to reach their customers? Are their internal systems and management team adequate to scale up? How would a larger size business impact the delicate balance they have created between the office and their family life?

Therefore, choosing the best style in business aids and contributes to the success of a business. In comparison, the two used the autocratic way of leadership where most of the decisions regarding the operation of the company were vested on the top managers. This is evident as we can see that they acted as the CEOs of the company and therefore they were final on any decision concerning the company activities in the market. In this way, the company would carry on its business activities smoothly and in an efficient way since decisions were concluded at an early stage.
On the other hand, the two tend to be different as Nate tends to use more of administrative type of management whereas Julia focuses on the scientific one. Nate is more concerned on the nature and management of the business. Moreover, the conscience towards technical efficiency of the business is of great importance. In this regard, their way of operation has also changed as they try to take in new ideas that will help solve the organizations problems.
