Consumer Price Index, Producer Price Index, and Import/Export Price Index Consumer Expenditures Survey
The Consumer Price Indexes (CPI) is getting better as it was 2.3% in September 2018 then increased to 1.6% in January 2019 and increased slightly to September 2019 (BLS). The Producer Price Index reflects the price changes in goods and services that the producers receive, and decreased for services and goods in September. The U.S. import prices were higher by 0.2 % in September compared to August and the US exports prices decreased on both September and August, while import/export prices have decreased in the past year (BLS). Higher import prices indicate the index is worsening, and lower export prices also indicating the numbers are worse.
In the Consumer Price Index, considering the month percentage change, the price of energy decreased, but that of food and other items increased, implying that consumers are paying less for energy than before, but paying more for food.
