Today’s Globalization in Context
In the past, gatherings aimed towards discussing globalization held at the beginning of each year in the World Economic Forum in Davos attracted the happy exchange of opportunities that exist in the business sector, the ideas of how to push the world forward and discussing the various hobbies different people engage in when they are not working (Saval). These meetings were often characterized by the sharing of pleasantries in a light mood. In 2017, however, the situation was not the same, the meetings that were previously full of happiness were filled with uncertainties of what the future holds for globalization. The article by Saval Nikil, “Globalization: The Rise and fall of an Idea that swept the World” supports the way world leaders and other people perceive globalization today is different from what used to be in the past. As John Wild and Kenneth Wild (16) write, the first age of globalization extended from around1800s to 1920s when labor was highly mobile, but the concept of globalization is ever changing due to multiple factors.

When Trump was elected into power, he strongly stated that he intended to end most of the trade deals made by different countries in the world. His words took most of the world leaders by surprise and most of them were anxious and unsure whether their countries would be among the countries that America would withdraw the trade relations with (Saval). The presidential elections in both Germany and France also played a major role in further increasing the tensions as people were uncertain of the impact of the election’s outcome on the global economy and global trade relations. It is clear from this scenario that a stable leadership of any country plays a major role in ensuring that trade relations and global boundaries are maintained for trade to take place effectively.
In as much as globalization seems to be the solution to the world problems faced today, it could also be the source of problems experienced worldwide. In some instances, people have lost jobs due to globalization and some have had reduced wage rates with the advancement in the relationships that exist with foreign countries as most nations prefer to employ workers from neighboring countries who seem more experienced than...
