The Bitter Game.
The Bitter Game is an engaging, high-impact, and immersive playwright experience with happiness and pain, poetry, and comedy that explores the nature and experience of being a black person in America. The play was created and performed by Keith A. Wallace, an individual with multiple characters playing five acts throughout the running time. The play is structured into four quarters and an overtime period to play a basketball game (Brantley 1). The play is a story about Jamel Smith, a young person who, while growing up, witnesses a neighborhood act of violence as a child and is later ought to learn to navigate through his encounters with the police. The Bitter Game excellently utilizes one of the persuasive powers of live theatre in a personal and a universal point of view, to narrate the story of how the police murdered Smith in a gas station on his way to surprise his mother.
Background Information about Ghost Dance.
Tulsa Indian Actors' Workshop created Ghost Dance in 1999, and after reading the history of Ghost Dance, Elizabeth Theobald Richards directed the play in 2001. The scenes on stage are performed by numerous actors, with the main ones being the artist telling the story and the boy and the girl listening to the story. In the play, significant scenes are represented by Hokti Buffalo, a thirty-year-old attorney, Grandma, and Grandpa, Lori Buffalo, Alcohol Spirit, Larry, Locust, Sherlock, Dr. Ben Bison, Wild Bill, Jonathan, Senators James and Turner and Nee among others (Page 1 of the draft of the play). The story is a remake of one of the many aspects of the legendary Indian Ghost dance. The playwright in the story is mainly a dialogue about the issues and experiences that Indians faced in America in ancient times when they used to live in most of the parts of the modern-day United States. It rotates around the problem of digging of Indian graves for archaeological purposes and recurring them, something that the traditions advise against.
The Theme of Racism
Racism is present between the two plays. Also termed as racialism, this is an act, a belief or practice that reflects the universal point of view that magnifies the ideology that human beings are divided into certain biological entities called races. Message states that the causal effect of the action is in the annotation that there is a connection between the inherited physical features and other traits of personality, intellect, morality, and other cultural and behavioral characteristics that are not the same (82). According to the superior culture, they have more of the features compared to the inferior culture. Significant forms of racism were witnessed following the defeat of Germany in World War I, where the Nazi Party utilized anti-Semitism to seize power in 1933, discriminating, persecuting, and killing all the Jews in their territories. Other examples include racism between white and black people in America and Europe.
