Painted between May 1884 and May 1886, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte is Georges Seurat’s achievement. The piece manifests Seurat as a landscape master and a good colour blender, light and form. His reference to past theories such as Michel Eugene Chevreul, Ogden Rood helped him do a standard colour mix and made his piece more attractive. He used small brushstrokes of colours believing the painting style will make the colours more brilliant and powerful. He used painted dots to surround the island of la Grande Jatte and enclosed it with a pure white wooden frame in his work. In the first instance, the parks with some couples show how important the park was as a place to relax.
