Art may take different versions of definitions; in my view, art refers to the wide range of human activities involving creativity and imagination, especially in a visual form such as sculpture or painting, and producing works appreciated mainly through their emotional power and beauty. Art is something existing in reality and, in most cases, is intended to communicate a certain message or mark as an item of remembering a major time in history or represent people who were very important in the community. In most cases, art is unique to the society and cultures in which it is created. This paper will seek to explore the unique features making the piece of Chinese art.
There exist various contemporary issues among Chinese art which make it the most fascinating. From the definition of ‘art,’ it is worth appreciating that art pieces reflect the traditions and cultures of the people where it is created. Hence when taking a closer look at the Chinese culture, it is highly expected that the culture will show the pieces of art that are introduced in their setting. However, this is not automatically true, especially when one critically examines the contemporary culture of the Chinese people. Therefore, the primary fascinating aspect of contemporary Chinese is the bridging of the Chinese and Western cultures. This implies that atypical Chinese can often identify a Chinese piece of art in a gallery, but it may be impossible to differentiate the contemporary Chinese artwork from the rest. When contemporary Chinese art is critically examined, it is noted that the art pieces do represent the culture of the Chinese people purely, their values and practices; instead, they have also incorporated western cultures. This is evident by the existing statements such as “China going to the world.” Further, taking a closer look at Chinese art, the idea of modern global cultures going beyond domestic boundaries comes into the board.
Modern Chinese artists have widely traveled and are exposed to many cultures existing across the globe as opposed to traditional artists who were not well-traveled but confined within the China boundaries. Also, a large number of Chinese artists have experience of western education; in the process, they were exposed to western culture and practices. Therefore, the artwork of a Chinese artist will likely incorporate Western culture and practices since they had an opportunity to taste Western education, for example, education in the United States or European education. When these artists encounter and become part of the cultural practices in global capitalism, they become an important feature in the ongoing cultural deterritorializing or decentralizing the process of the early twenty-first and the late twentieth century (Ames and Hsingyuan, n.p). The statement indicates that the Chinese people have been in the recent decade experienced major changes.
