Great Master Ekphrasis
Ekphrasis is the vivid artistic description of a piece of artwork, which in ancient times meant a vivid description of a person, experience, or anything. Notably, ekphrasis originated from Greek to evoke feelings or describe a thing, either imaginary or real. Further, ekphrasis is generally considered a rhetoric device in which one form of art tries to relate with another form to connect to the audience through its liveliness. This relationship is created by defining and describing the structure and essence of the art. For instance, Homer describes Achilles in his book Odyssey. In artwork, ekphrasis is used to describe and analyze a painting that was done years ago in a language easily understood by the target audience. This assignment will explore the famous Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo da Vinci.
Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa painting is located in France's Louvre museum, which is believed to be painted between 1503 and 1519 by Leonardo da Vinci in Italy. The woman in the painting is Lisa Gherardini the wife of Francesco Del Giocondo, an affluent silk merchant in Florence (Le Louvre Museum). The woman occupies three-quarters of the painting, considered to be a masterpiece of archetypal in the Italian Renaissance. Mona Lisa Is the most known painting, in which individuals have composed songs, described, and even reviewed it to be the most expensive and insured painting.
The painting is made of oil and painted against a faraway landscape in which Lisa stares at the viewer. Further, her enigmatic smile captures observers' attention and curiosity. Her eyes are subtle and fragile, even though she lacks eyebrows and eyelashes. She is seen resting in a chair and her arms occupying the armrest. The left arm is comfortable on the armrest, which is crossed by the right arm, which creates a protective feeling between her and the spectator.
