Over the last decade, new technological advances have transformed the marketplace, stretching the frontiers of education and opening up new avenues for higher education. This is especially true in the healthcare professions, where instructional innovations have increased market rivalry while also emphasizing the establishment of quality systems and standards that represent contemporary advances in technology-assisted education (Boso et al., 2021). With the accessibility of internet connectivity, web resources, and electronic mail, and the growth of smart devices and simulations, technology in nursing education is becoming more common. The application of technology helps nurse educators improve their higher-order thinking skills; hence, it allows them to make the right decisions and understand practical and theoretical concepts, making their transition to the clinical setting easier.
Simulation Technologies
Simulation is an effective method for teaching students new concepts and skills. In the context of nursing education, if the simulation is recognized as a teaching tool, it aligns well with nursing education's conceptual framework. Students' knowledge of patient care and their ability to deal with difficulties may be inadequate due to the rapid changes in possible applications, obstacles associated with the safety of patients, and ethical considerations (Chang, Lai, and Hwang, 2018). A health worker's ability to provide safe, timely, and appropriate care is crucial in delivering healthcare. For this purpose, simulation is used to provide active and experiential learning. Thanks to simulation technology, nursing operations may be taught and practiced realistically. Low-tech simulations, including hip and arm models, and high-tech simulations enabled by software applications, are used by instructors to help students avoid medical errors (Hussin, Harun, and Shukor, 2018). Students learn to care for patients without harming them by making mistakes on simulation models.
Simulation programs help student clinicians enhance their clinical judgment abilities while also building their self-esteem, increasing their capacity for creativity, and increasing their ability to communicate with one another effectively. Realistic simulation sequences allow nursing students and professionals to gain the skills needed to perform their responsibilities and commitments in all situations (Starkweather et al., 2019). However, as Williamson and Muckle (2018) emphasize, the advantages, disadvantages, and problems of simulation technologies in nursing education and whether or not they meet educational goals must be carefully considered by universities before being included in nursing curricula. While developing prediction models, students' learning needs and the substance and complexity level of the events should be taken into account.
