Introduction.
Entrepreneurship is considered the act of setting up a business and taking on risks with the hope of financial profit. Extensive research has found empirical evidence for the macroeconomic impacts of entrepreneurship and some adverse effects. This essay analyzes entrepreneurship through Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors and one of the easily recognized entrepreneurs.
Background of the entrepreneur.
Elon Musk is a South African-born American entrepreneur and businessman best known for founding Tesla Motors. His other inventions range from financial entities such as X.com, founded in 1999 (which later became PayPal), and aerospace with his 2003 invention Space X. In his late 20's he became a multimillionaire by selling yet another one of his startups, Zip2, to a Compaq Computers division. Since then, he has overseen the first commercial vehicle launching the International Space Station by SpaceX in 2012 CITATION DAN21 \l 1033 (BLYSTONE, 2021). At the same time, Tesla has grown to become one of the world's best automobile manufacturing companies. Musk has reportedly surpassed Jeff Bezos to the wealthiest man's position in the world for personal success.
Born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa, Musk was so absorbed in the world inventions to the point of daydreams. His parents and doctors consequently ordered a test to check his hearing. At ten years, he developed an interest in computers and taught himself how to program. Two years later, he sold his first game, a software he named Blastar. Musk was an introvert and bookish: characteristics that propelled him to study business and physics at the University of Pennsylvania.
Entrepreneurial traits/characteristics.
Psychological entrepreneurship theories (Landstrom 1998) stress personal characteristics that define an entrepreneur CITATION Nez19 \l 1033 (Titus & Adiza, 2019). The theorist believes that inborn traits set apart individuals and naturally make them suited to become entrepreneurs. Elon Musk possesses specific characteristics that make him one of the best entrepreneurs of this generation. He is a driven individual with an insane work ethic, sees the bigger picture, never say die attitude, redefines conventional ways of working, and has an eye for fresh talent. He believes that there is no shortcut to success; hence he works for 100 hours a week. His hard work and determination set a standard that his colleagues and employees have followed for years.
Musk has portrayed his knack for targeting challenging obstacles or opportunities for mankind with his career innovations. His ability to see the bigger picture plays a part in this as he is ready to take risks with no particular short-term gains insight. His risk-taking abilities are further portrayed by his unconventional means of operation regarding Tesla and Space X. In the automobile industry, it is difficult for a company to gain any foothold with unique products. As expected, the start of Tesla was met with skepticism and legal pressures that can crumble an entrepreneurship venture. The ability to recruit fresh and capable talent is crucial to the success story of an entrepreneur. His agreeablen...
