My choice of the best urban design is the one done in Seaside, Florida by Duany and Plater‐Zyberk, in which they assigned to specific types of streets, squares and alleys. They founded their design language and expression on foundations derived from old southern towns and research on classic planning models. The town’s structure and scale were anticipated to accommodate a full population of 2,000 people, like many traditional American small towns. As a result, the town has been a big development success, and property values have been on the rise.
The one that stood out last was the one designed in Mashpee Commons, Massachusetts because it was done with the aim of creating a town centre, and bring a civic pride and community. The designer wanted the Private developers create the public institutional buildings and donate them to the community. But due to poor planning, this never succeeded.
The two designs show a big contrast in the way modern designs are supposed to be done.
