In January 2011, President Bashar al-Assad of Syria was interviewed by The Wall Street Journal. He was asked if he anticipates the protest taking place in Arab countries that have successfully unseated dictator rules in Egypt Tunisia. He acknowledged that there was a protest in Syrian, and the progress towards achieving political and economic reforms was slow but was confident of his administration because he can deal with resistance to Israel and the US with the beliefs of the people of Syria He claimed that the rulers who had fallen had embraced and engaged in western foreign policies in disobedience to their people's feelings.[1. After the interview, several Syrians were angered by his revelations and decided to protest in response. In March 2011, democracy protests exploded throughout the country, and the protesters demanded that the Asiad's regime in place since 1971 should stop authoritarian practices. The Syrian government decided to use inhuman means and excessive force, which Al-Assad's father used to suppress revolts and protest by using paramilitary troops, police, and military. That led to the formation of opposition militias in 2011, which intensified the conflicts and extended it to a fully-fledged war by 2012The opposition took arms and crude weapons to defend themselves against security forces. Still, president Assad never relented and instead vowed to use more power to crush and suppress what he termed "foreign-backed terrorism." As the violence escalated, the country was in chaos, and it descended to civil war. Before the conflicts intensified, several Syrians complained about rampant corruption in government, lack of political freedom, and high level of unemployment when Bashar al-Assad succeeded his father as the president when he died in 2002.[.
