Population and Society Form the Foundation of Demographic Studies
Population and society form the foundation of demographic studies. A population is the number of inhabitants in a particular area. On the other hand, a society is a group of individuals with specific social interaction characteristics. The paper defines key demography concepts and applies them to real-world situations.
Demography Concepts
1. Demography Timebomb: When rising life expectancy and decline in fertility lead to more retired people supported by not enough working people (Kane, 2022). Therefore, youth bulge can either be positive or negative depending on the social and economic situations. Youth bulge also determines the interaction of society and demography. For instance, increased youthful populations without jobs may lead to critical insecurity movements and an increased rate of crime.
