Fashion Film Response Audience About Fashion As An Industry

Essay Instructions:

The final assignment asks you to choose one film (either Dior and I or The True Cost) and analyze it with reference to the ideas and topics we’ve talked about this term.
Focus your writing on only one film, not both.
Once you’ve chosen which film to focus on, you will analyze it with reference to our course topics and readings. You must explicitly refer to and cite specific course texts, which vary based on the film you choose to analyze and the type of argument you want to make. At least one text must come from the list below, and the others should come from the course syllabus (you can use additional sources beyond the syllabus but outside research is optional).

In your fashion film response of 600-700 words, discuss how your film communicates some larger social or cultural idea about the fashion industry and include analysis and evidence to demonstrate how your film communicates this. What does your film tell us about fashion as an industry and how does it accomplish this? What does it say? How does it say it? Summarize your argument about your film in a clear, one-sentence thesis statement.
The primary goal for this assignment is for you to demonstrate that you can connect the film to ideas from the course and that you can use those ideas to clearly and thoughtfully analyze your example.

You will be graded on how well you meet the requirements listed above and the following criteria:
A clear description and contextualization of your fashion film
A clear, one-sentence thesis statement that summarizes your argument about your film
A clear, thoughtful analysis of your film, connected to course topics and informed by analysis of course readings
Generous, explicit, and thoughtful connection to the sources of your research through citations
An introduction, conclusion, and bibliography formatted according to Chicago style
Clear writing and evidence of editing and proofreading

Extra Credit: If you visit the University Learning Center to work on this paper and email your instructors your appointment confirmation, 10 extra credit points will be added to your assignment grade.

Introduction
Dior and I is a documentary film that brings the audience inside the celebrated world of the Christian Dior fashion store and it also provided the viewers with a privilege of looking at the behind-the-scenes and also experiencing the creation of the designer Raf Simons. The movie was released in 2014 and was written and directed by Frédéric Tcheng. This paper will examine how Dior and I has expressed some social issues as gayness through the life of Christian Dior and it also describes what the movie tells the audience about fashion as an industry.
The movie starts with a very short overview of Dior’s history. Christian Dior favored privacy and small social meetings. In the limelight, Dior was an icon and he also initiated and motivate bloodless revolutions. When we are first introduced into Dior fashion house, we find that the workers are wearing white jackets with name “Dior” embellished above the breast pocket where one might expect to find the worker’s name. From this, it is clear that the objective of the movie is to tell the story of a man’s identification with a cultural role-model using the same life-model as used by Steven Patrick Morrissey in his 2006 single “Christian Dior.” The Morrissey’s song is one of the greatest gay songs and brotherly tributes ever recorded.[Armond White, 2015. Morrissey looks at the life of one of the premiere twentieth-century fashion designers and pays tribute to both his artistry and his personal sexuality. It acknowledges the creative drive that took precedent over common pleasures, how Dior discretely demonstrated a model of personal conduct becoming a giant in art history and gay consciousness. The documentary makes the audience recall the Morrissey’s song and not forget it. Direct Frederic Tcheng does not get as imaginatively personal as Morrissey, however, he has made Dior and I a testimony to the change in gay consciousness since Dior’s post-world II prominence.
