Doing this course has equipped me with vast experience in academic writing. To mention a few, academic writing needs to be formatted in specific formats such as APA (American psychologists Association), MLA (Modern Language), and Harvard, among other forms. All across these writing styles, one has to acknowledge any works that are not theirs by adding references and in-text citations. When presenting ideas, scholars need to recognize any other authors or materials that have been used.
Also, scholars need to consider the flow of their work when presenting their ideas. For instance, scholarly work needs to be introduced with an introductory paragraph that has a hook. A hook is the thesis statement that carries the main aim of doing the research or the review. Following the introductory paragraph is the body that synthesizes the thesis. A body consists of sections that have preceding sentences. Also, the paragraphs should not be longer than five sentences each. A conclusion is needed after the body to sum up all the ideas presented.
