Part 1 For this essay, I chose to respond to the book Major Problems in American Foreign Relations by Dennis Merrill and Thomas Patterson, a Concise Edition text published by Houghton Millflin in Boston, in 2006. I enjoy this book throughout reading the whole of its course basing its ideas on the isolationist and internationalist ideas of America in its relations with France in 1778 during the colonial era. The first segment of the text expresses its message using historical technical but understandable terms that enabled me to fully grasp the information and extract the meaning out of the idea that America did not support the internationalist ideas of Paris. The other parts of the book are arguably easy to understand and it is not overly long, but rather, it has a reasonable length for a book of its type.[Merrill, D., & Paterson, T. G. (2010). Boston, MA: Wadsworth Cengage Learning.] I chose this document because I wanted to analyze and relate the current affairs in the US and similar issues of the past in consideration with the concepts of internationalism and isolationism. In detail, I was looking at the currently trending issue in the US where its president, Donald Trump, has decided that the nation chooses to develop itself internally by only dealing with and addressing their own interests while limiting its international relations and association with other countries. The president is in the verge of activating his Trump immigration ban policy and the Friday ban of touring the US if one is not a native born citizen of the nation. Further, he has solid plans of building a wall around the nation in order to fully encourage domestic development and completely cut itself from the rest of the world.[Braumoeller, Bear F. 2010. The authors state that the founders of the nation were isolationist and they believed that the interests of the US would best be served if it had relations or ties with the Europeans, especially France, and other nations and if it completely eliminated alliances and its intervention to the affairs of those nations and instead, adopt and encourage the isolationist American foreign policy for the betterment of the nation. The information from the text that I found interesting is the fact that one of the founding fathers of the US, George Washington, was one of the supporters of the foreign policy of isolationism to the extent that he proposed that the US should refrain from World War I because that would mean that the country and its soldiers will heal from the fight, faster than any other country.[Urbatsch, R.
