JPEX Essay on Operational-Level Center of Gravity for Caprica

Essay Instructions:

Length: 1450-1800 words.
* Identify the operational-level Center of Gravity (COG) for Caprica. Justify your selection, and then conduct a critical factor analysis (CFA) for the COG you identify. Provide from your critical factor analysis a minimum of one critical capability, two critical requirements, and two critical vulnerabilities, as well as your justification for the derivation of these factors for each COG (450-550 Words).
*Develop and describe one Course of Action (COA) that is distinguishable from both the two COAs provided in the Staff Estimate (150-250 words).
*Conduct a doctrinal validity test on the COA you developed and describe your results (400-450 words). Remember the ultimate goal of a COA validity is to determine whether COAs are appropriate for presentation to CCDR.
*Using the five evaluation criteria provided in paragraph 3 of the Staff Estimate of the Situation, conduct a COA Comparison between the COA you developed and any one of the given COAs. You may use any format you choose (including the sample decision matrix found earlier in this lesson). Explain your methodology and your results (450-550 words).

Operational-Level Center of Gravity for Caprica
The operational-level Center of Gravity for Caprica refers to its military potential as an adversary, including powerful elements of its armed forces along with other capabilities in the operational setting. Caprica is currently the world's fourth-largest military with highly skilled and well-trained armed forces. The government of China succeeded in opening military trade deals with Caprica: the former's land, naval, and air forces are using a mix of newer Chinese military equipment and dated Soviet manufacture. Caprica sources its arms from Russia, China, and Tartarus, where the Russian and Chinese militaries provide 100 and 30 military advisors, respectively. These advisors serve as trainers at all levels, from training senior staff to training specialist personnel employing Russian and Chinese imported hardware and delivery systems. Even though the Army and Air Forces rely on a combination of modern Chinese and outdated and less capable Russian military equipment, the two branches regularly exercise together. They have shown their ability to work together as a joint force effectively. The Caprican Army is a large, competent force with outgoing personnel having a reservist commitment for five years.
Caprica lacks sufficient forces for reinforcement, particularly naval and air force reinforcements. However, ground forces can rely on the mobile SCUD-capable brigades to be operational anywhere in the country within two days. Caprica has 20 highly transportable SCUD launchers equally split between its two autonomous missile brigades. These SCUD launchers can be situated anywhere in the country within two days, while the missiles can fire chemical, biological, chemical, nuclear, or high-yield explosive warheads. Caprica has numerous WMD production/storage facilities within SCUD launch sites. Although the Caprica Air Forces have a modest active air force compared with the army's size, its imported combat equipment includes 12 squadrons of modern fighters (Su-25s, Su-27s, and MiG-29s). The Caprican Air Force has 36 military airfields spread across the country. Caprica partially compensates for the poor state of its telecommunication, road, and rail infrastructure through its three squadrons of transport aircraft (Il-76 and An-12). Despite having one bombardment squadron and having ground radars only in its early warning network, Caprica, on the whole, has an extensive and capable united air defense system.[ACSC/DLC, “Scenario Guide Joint Planning Exercise (JPEX),” 2021.]
Caprica's Navy is just as well trained as the Army and Air Forces, but its equipment deficiencies forces have restricted its abilities to a minimal coastal defense. The Caprican Navy is currently unable to support its merchant fleet. The Caprica Navy has limited coastal assets, a majority of which are increasingly becoming outdated. Moreover, besides the two diesel submarines and limited unit types (patrol craft, attack submarines, and minesweepers), Caprica has no coast-defense missile system. However, Caprica is backed by a very patriotic army. While the current administration may have lost some support due to the protracted ...
