Amazon Web Services (AWS) is one of the dominant players in the cloud platform. As a pioneer, AWS commands the largest market share in the industry, with 31% in 2015 and 33% in 2019 (Noam, 2021). The entity leverages its size to serve as the industry's pricing reference point (Noam, 2021). AWS employs state-of-the-art technology to offer cloud computing services and online storage space to individual clients and businesses across the globe. Netflix is a multinational entity that heavily utilizes AWS for almost all its computing and data storage needs, such as analytics, databases, video transcoding, and recommendation engines, among others. Against this backdrop, this paper explains the data, information, analytics, and big data services AWS offers to Netflix. Netflix handles large data sizes, and AWS offers data storage services to the organization. According to Noam (2021), Netflix uses AWS to deploy more than 1000 servers and terabytes of storage for movies from anywhere globally. AWS handles the data storage component, while Netflix handles the Content Delivery Network CDN and the client-facing front end. The company's use of storage services from AWS reduced the complexity of running data on data centers. Moreover, the cloud data storage platform offers increased efficiency and availability.
AWS also provides data analytics services to Netflix, which offers critical information to the online video streaming entity. Through the Amazon Kinesis Data Streams (KDS), AWS allows Netflix to access data collected automatically from customers (Noam, 2021). For instance, when a client requests to stream a program on the online streaming platform, AWS customizes videos to the user's computer based on the information acquired from the device, such as IP address and operating system (Noam, 2021).
