Introduction
Information security is critical in guarding the resources of a company. Organizations presently depend on internal computer application and the web to do business. This has seen an increase in information security threats. Organizations rely heavily on cyber to run their businesses. Cyber security refers to the information technology security focusing on protection of computers, networks, programs and data from illegal access. A security breach affects negatively on the organizations revenue, clients confidence and their relations to the public. Owing to the present of various challenges associated with cyber security, it is important for an organization to establish an information security program as its first priority.
The information technology framework forms policies and practices for an organization. Cyber security standards are security methods implemented to stop attacks. The standards are ISO 27001 and 27002. ISO 27001 ensures all information security is under the control of the management while ISO 27002 provides a guide for the management of cyber security (Singer & Friedman, 2014). Cyber security framework includes their core functionality that identifies, protects, responds and recovers in relation to cyber threats. Personnel need to maintain confidentiality, to avoid loss of businesses by mishandling; by disclosing the information to unauthorized individuals, and being non-complaint to laws and rules that requires information security awareness and training activities (Yar, 2010).
