I chose this topic because the world has been on a race against time shift from using crude oil as the dominant energy source. Harnessing wind power is one of the renewable sources of energy that would help in averting the dangers posed by using crude oil. Wind power stands to benefit the world because of its zero-emissions generation and, therefore, a solution to global warming. Despite the efforts made in the United States to shift focus on the age of power using wind, especially at strategic points (offshore), they have been met with resistance from other quarters. The Jones Act is century-old legislation that has seen the US government and other investors in wind power experience a slow implementation of wind power systems (Penn, 2021). Therefore, I believe that the topic is significant because the audience understands the limitations of implementing the increased harnessing of wind power as a renewable energy source.
Event Summary
Wind power generation is a significant technological advancement in the 21st century. In the United States, the wind is highly sufficient in offshore areas, therefore demanding that the Biden Administration position its wind-power generators in areas occupied by US residents and block some of the activities that create employment to the natives living on the shorelines (Penn, 2021). One such notable problem is the evacuation of fishermen who will have to leave their livelihoods behind and pave the way for the construction of the wind power plants. Equally, foreign investors have developed an interest in helping the American federal and state governments improve the process of harnessing wind power.
