Morality is a principle that defines the sense of right and wrong. These principles are primarily learned through the environment. Socialization is one of the leading environmental factors that subject individuals to morality. Interactions with people around us, like family, friends, colleagues, and peers, can shape our behaviors. Children, for instance, cognitively acquire the sense of right and wrong by observing their parents’ behaviors. If their parents behave uprightly, the child may emulate their behaviors. Peers also influence our morality. Hanging out with well-behaved friends makes us behave like them. Equally, peers who engage in unethical and immoral acts can influence us to embrace their conduct. We also learn the sense of right and wrong in school and religion.
