Understanding the Political Economic of Latin America
Scholars like Wiarda and Anderson have underscored the importance of political culture in explaining political and economic development in Latin America. Their critics argue that cultural interpretations can be too deterministic or narrow (even lend itself to racist interpretations) as an explanation to political behavior, for example. As defined by the renowned political scientist Lucian Pye (Dwiastuti, 2021), political culture is critical as it relates to government formation in terms of values, opinions, beliefs, and emotions of the voting populace.
