Body changes define individuals’ cultures. The first body modification shown in Taboo: Body Modifications involves women in Thailand from the Kayan tribe. The process begins when a girl is young, such as 2-years-old. In particular, the significance of this body modification is for females to have long necks. Although putting the concentric rings does not enhance Kayan women’s lives, it makes them distinguished since it’s a form of beauty in their culture. Some females have about twenty-five concentric rings, which make their necks to be more than 12 inches high (“Taboo: Body Modifications,” n.d.). Young girls chose freely whether to be long necks or not. However, they experience pain and discomfort.
The other body modification is breast ironing carried out in Bafut, Cameron in Africa. Indeed, it is performed on young girls from 9 years old. Even older women usually engage in breast flattening.
