Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 concerns achieving gender equality and empowering all females. This paper discusses SDG 5 and the associated social impacts of deindividuation, groupthink, normative social influence, and group polarization concepts.
SDG 5
Nations should implement bold actions to increase gender equality progress. They could enact policies, laws, and regulations and create appropriate institutions that favor women (United Nations, 2022). SDG Tracker (2013) explained that giving females equal access to health care, education, representation in making decisions for economic and political purposes, and decent work will benefit societies and enable sustainable economies. Females enhance quick recoveries in economies and societies, promote better development outcomes, and support the world in accomplishing SDGs (United Nations, 2022). Unfortunately, unlike men, women are excluded from providing gender perspectives and participating in decision-making and planning actions.
SDG 5 addresses gender inequalities by advocating for positive and radical actions to build a resilient and just world, considering multiple sectors of females' lives. It strives to eliminate all discrimination against females globally, such as early marriages, gender-based violence from an intimate partner, female genital mutilation, and unpaid care work (SDG Tracker, 2013). Additionally, the goal aims to promote women's participation in managerial positions, decision-making, property ownership, economic opportunities, and access to services.
Social Impacts
Various social factors can affect SDG 5. Deindividuation and groupthink social concepts can negatively impact SDG 5.
