Life is full of complicated issues that result in parents’ separation or death that leaves the children to live with stepparents. A step-parent is a parent who comes to a sequent relation between father and mother who separated meaning the children will have one stepparent either father or mother. A good stepparent should provide although offering needs for a family is a taxing duty in today's world. Some stepparents work long hours to pay bills and ensure that their children live a comfortable life. Good parents should also follow up their children’s education but due to long working hours to provide, most stepparents come home when tired and with boredom or time to track up in their children's learning progress. Some stepparents leave all educational duties to teachers. However, children whose parents are supportive and involved in their education have a better chance of succeeding in school. Education is the key to a better life and is a measure of good parenting when children get the education (Hendricks, Hendricks, & Neff, 2011).
Firstly, children whose stepparents play a significant role in their schooling score good grades than those whose stepparents play a passive responsibility or are absent overall. This is because good parents persuade their children to do well in school. Good parents assist their children to do their assignments and coordinate with educators to identify and tackle difficulties come across in their children’s learning. They also assist their kids to choose subjects they can do with passion and brilliance. The contribution of parents in the learning of their children also persuades teachers. Since trainers play a momentous role in rating and ranking a child, "a high level of step-parental involvement probably influences the way the teacher recognizes and even ranks the child." A successful stepparent provides teachers with feedback about a child’s manners and wellbeing to aid the child to attain higher grades in tests (Hendricks, Hendricks, & Neff, 2011).
Secondly, a successful stepparent should be supportive since children with supportive stepparents are more regimented than those with unsupportive stepparents. It is simple for stepparents who track on their children’s school actions and home behavior to discover weaknesses that may initiate indiscipline. They can then talk about such flaws with teachers and establish strategies to set right the weaknesses. As a result, children with such stepparents are less probable to develop disorderly characters. Children with supportive stepparents are less likely to misuse drugs and alcohol or to be expelled from school. A research by Schroede, (2015) found that eighth rankers whose stepparents were dedicated to their child's learning had reduced cases of absenteeism and were less probable to drop out of schools. A school with many activities that need step parental contribution report fewer cases of violent or rebellious behavior.
