The comedy film: The Million Pound Note, directed by Ronald Neame, is adapted from the novel by Mark Twain. The film depicts Adams, a young man who is handed an envelope containing a million-pound bank note (Retrospective-Classic Moves, 2018). The two brothers that give the envelope are conducting a social experiment to satisfy their curiosity. They want to establish whether Adam will return the note, to which they reward him with a well-paying job. Resultantly, he is exposed to extraordinary treatment that befits a millionaire. He does not have to spend on most of the luxurious clothes and exclusive hotels because of his status. The satirical film depicts various experiences, including difficulties that riches and money expose one to. It also includes how riches and money can affect society, including how people perceive one. It outlines the intersection between riches and humanity. The central theme is money and power and how people behave or establish social relationships. In this regard, money affects human nature and social relationships, as indicated by the various characters in “The Million Pound Note.”

One can easily tell that Adams is penniless and stranded until the rich brothers intervene, giving him a banknote that ultimately signals riches and changes his relationship with the people around him. It reveals that people are willing to worship money, and people who possess riches are easily treated differently compared to those without. This is depicted when people expose Adams to unusual treatments that he would not have experienced without the millionaire status. It indicates that social relationships are positively shaped by possessions such as money, which includes favors and people’s willingness to embrace various actions such as disregarding the need for compensation on luxurious hotels and cordial interactions that Adams would not have been exposed to had his status as a poor man stuck.
