The main duty of a transportation supervisor is overseeing all the daily activities, personnel of organizations, and workload. These are some of the activities that involve the use of vehicles in usual operations. Some of the common places transportation supervisors are needed include government agencies, schools, manufacturing companies, local transit companies, and freight organizations. Being a qualified transportation supervisor is worth it because these individuals help maximize operational efficiency by minimizing costs.
Walking is an important physical demand for a transportation supervisor. Since one has the responsibility of overseeing different activities, one has to walk around an organization. On average, these individuals have to spend half of their time walking around an organization. On has to interact with employees, assign duties, and oversee other activities. Generally, any supervisor's function includes planning, supervising, directing, assigning, and inspecting transportation activities in the company. Lastly, a transportation supervisor is involved in the training of employees. During training sessions, one has to walk around, engage employees while teaching them. Flexibility is very important because one can be required to walk for the whole day without even sitting. One can stand for a maximum of 7 hours per day.

Sitting is another physical demand for transportation supervisors. Although an individual has the responsibility of supervising and assigning duties, one spends time sitting in the office. Record keeping is one of the responsibilities of a transportation supervisor. Maintaining records means that one has to sit in the office to evaluate and keep records. Additionally, other employees are supposed to report to the supervisors after completing their duties. Their evaluation takes place in an office setup. Apart from their office, one is involved in transportation. This is another area where sitting is a physical demand of a transportation supervisor.
