Sexual Literacy Journey—A History
Sexual literacy is one of such things that may affect someone either positively or adversely. Learning the reality about sexuality is one of the surprises among young people and even their parents. As a witness, when I first discovered the truth about my sexuality, my parents were the first audience to listen to such news. It was a time when I was in my adolescence stage of development. It is such a stage that I realized to be involving various parties in the household; the individuals concerned with such a stage are the parents and the child. It was a significant part of my transition, not solitarily but, my parents were equally affected by it. It was such an uncomfortable experience that I had. Shyness and fear of intimacy overwhelmed me, and I never thought of the best approach I could take to handle the entire confusion that developed into me. Based on what I was taught about sex in my previous classes, in my sixth grade.
Since it is provided in the social education curriculum due to the earlier commencement of puberty amongst American teenagers and the astonishing child developmental phase at which children are unprotected from sexual content events, several educational institutions have begun sex education in 5th grade. Thus, I could understand some of the significant aspects of sexual awareness. Though tremendous changes I experienced in my body made me restless and shy. Therefore, bearing the courage to face my parents with discoveries about my sexuality was difficult. Ultimately, I realized that it was my responsibility to disclose the reality. When I wanted to tell them about my evolving sexuality, they faced a mixed reaction—their response was composed of worry and confusion. They seemed entirely unprepared for such a phase of parenthood, but the situation wholly changed when I disclosed that I am heterosexual.
Consequently, it was the period I started to learn that sexual growth is characteristically treated as a kind of discrete growth; sexuality and erotic behavior have deep connections with personal involvements. Sexual behavior is widely personal. Even if an individual experiences sensual pleasure solitarily, it is frequently escorted by fantasy or an image of a factual or imagined other. Though I was transitioning throughout the puberty phase, I could comprehend the underlying reasons for my parents' response toward my unfolded solid state. I discovered that parents lack the know-how based on sex education; hence, it disqualifies them from being sex educators and poor at handling such cases with the best approach. After that, I was uneasy, and I could barely stay at home. However, they later offered me guidance, but I realized that sexuality is such an emotional component to an individual. Also, provided that such fundamentals are a personal element, I know that we can put any effort into comprehending sex desires to identify it as an individual experience.
