Negative Threats to Global Biodiversity

Essay Instructions:

The diversity of life on Earth is impressive and critical for maintaining ecosystem services and our survival. This diversity extends to millions of species, to thousands of unique ecosystems, and even to the microscopic level of genes and inheritable genetic material. Unfortunately, global biodiversity at all levels is threatened by a variety of challenges, which all lead to species extinction. Each of these threats demand organized and effective policy responses at the local, regional, state, or international level. The policy responses also should involve a variety of stakeholders that have vested interests in preserving and conserving biodiversity around our planet. Biodiversity has enormous direct and indirect value and must be protected if life on Earth is to be sustained.

Negative Threats to Global Biodiversity
Biodiversity contributes to a rich natural ecosystem as a result of their stability and reliance. However, several stressors, mostly human influence have been considered to reduce the aspect of biodiversity (Penca, 2015). As a result of this, several losses on species have been witnessed that have astonishing effects on an entire ecosystem thus endangering the human race as well. The primary threats to biodiversity include the wide changes in climate and overexploitation.
Climate Changes:
The element of climatic changes that are gradual is known for its habitat destruction, thus threatening ecosystem biodiversity since climate impacts different kinds of organisms that adapt within an ecosystem (Penca, 2015). The rise in global temperatures close to 4°C by 2100 and the increase in atmospheric methane and carbon dioxide that result from combustion and the burning of fossil fuels increase this. The end result of climatic changes include the negative impact of nesting and breeding habits, jeopardy of water and food sources, ...
