Moderator Effect:
The study examined the moderating effect of perceived stress on the relationship between racial discrimination and drinking habits among African American emerging adults. The findings revealed that perceived stress significantly moderated the relationship between racial discrimination and drinking habits (Metzger et al.,2021). Specifically, perceived stress exacerbated the relationship between racial discrimination and hazardous drinking behavior. Individuals who experienced high levels of both perceived stress and racial discrimination were more likely to engage in dangerous drinking behavior (Metzger et al.,2021). In contrast, individuals who experienced low levels of perceived stress were less likely to engage in hazardous drinking behavior, regardless of their exposure to racial discrimination.

A moderator effect refers to the influence of a third variable on the relationship between two other variables.
