At a time when there are rampant child abuse incidents in the country, there is need to return some normalcy into the society. The socioeconomic outlook continues pressing upon most households, and this has the trickle-down effect on children. They face abuse and neglect on a more regular basis than before. The aim of mandated reporting is usually to pick out any incident of child abuse or neglect, and in turn work around it to ensure that it doesn’t continue (Liu & Vaughn, 2019). The ultimate goal is to prevent any further harm from being done on these children by whoever the perpetrator might be.
The state under study in this case is Virginia. The laws governing mandatory reporting usually differ from one state to another (Nouman et.al. 2020). Some states are usually so particular or specific, in that only individuals in certain professions are allowed to exercise mandatory reporting. The most often ones are usually law enforcement and child protection personnel. In the case of Virginia however, the law is open. This means that the state’s mandatory reporting law allows anyone and everyone to report any incident that entails child abuse (Goulart, 2018). The state law also places additional weight on the responsibility of authorized professionals to immediately report such incident...
