Group Decision-Making vs Individual Decision-Making
Decision-making is an inevitable process in our daily operations. People have to make decisions both as individuals and as groups before undertaking a given procedure. The option to make decisions as an individual or as a group depends on various factors. However, group making has more advantages compared to individual decision-making in terms of speed, creativity and acceptance. Group decision-making involves consulting many people and hence draws from different experiences and perspectives, which makes the decisions formed to be more creative and result in more acceptance. The acceptability of these decisions is based on the fact that since more people are consulted, the overall decision is likely to incorporate the interests of the different groups and hence more acceptable. The only challenge with group decision-making compared to individual decision-making lies in the speed with which the decisions are made. Group decision-making takes a longer period since consultations have to be made and as each individual has to think through the decision and argue out with the members, the process eventually takes longer. Therefore, group decision-making tends to be more accurate, creative and acceptable compared to individual decision-making, but tends to be slower.
