John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher who borrowed ideas from Bentham’s moral theories on utilitarianism and expounded on them to build deeply on ethical theories of morality. To justify utilitarianism as the foundation for morals and ethical code of conduct, Mill developed the principle of greatest happiness. The principle of the utmost happiness indicates that an individual’s action is right in proportion based on their inclination to enhance their overall happiness levels.
