Mental illness has become a worrying trend in America with approximately eight million Americans suffering from serious psychological distress (SPD). A research done by the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that 27% of U.S adults experience certain forms of mental health disorder CITATION APA18 \l 1033 (APA, 2018). Thus, America is the leading country experiencing the highest prevalence rates of mental disorders. The disorders include anxiety, substance abuse, attention deficit, mood disorder among others. Technology has made possible globalization and interconnectivity. However, overreliance of individuals on technological gadgets and social media has created mental health problems such as bipolar, depression, anxiety among others.
Justscience (2018) indicate that technology usage affects one’s psychological, cognitive and behavioral development.
