The issue of immigration is a sensitive national topic in the United States. The topic's sensitivity is fueled by several misconceptions about immigration and its impact on the United States. According to Budiman (2020), history shows that a majority of immigrants are from Mexico. In recent years, however, China is the leading country from which most immigrants come. In 2018, for instance, there were 149,000 immigrants from China compared to 120,000 from Mexico (Budiman, 2020). This shows that more immigrants are coming from Asia more than they are coming from Mexico.
A fundamental misconception about immigrants is that they burden the country by taking jobs, housing, and healthcare.
